Springsteen, Nebraska, and the American Folk Tradition

Springsteen, Nebraska, and the American Folk Tradition In-Person

Bruce Springsteen works within musical traditions in a way that acknowledges their influence and at the same time creates something new. The album Nebraska marks Springsteen's first album-length engagement with the American folk tradition. His lyrics create a dialogue with that tradition in order to offer his own distinct perspective. This lecture will take a close look at Nebraska to explore how tradition and originality come together to create something greater than the sum of their parts.
