Ever fallen and scraped your knee or gotten a paper cut? What did you reach for to cover the cut? An adhesive bandage, right? Who do you think came up with what we all know as the Band-Aid®? 

Children’s author Barry Wittenstein knows. We invite you to join the New Jersey Center for the Book for this free virtual author visit with Wittenstein on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 10 am – 11 am as he discusses his children’s picture book, The Boo Boos That Changed the World: A True Story About an Accidental Invention (Really!). 

For America’s 250^th birthday, the NJ Center for the Book is celebrating books about enterprising and innovative Americans who made a difference, such as New Brunswick’s Earle Dickson, inventor of the Band-Aid®, and the subject of Wittenstein’s book.  

During the live event, Mr. Wittenstein will read The Boo-Boosbook and share insights about his writing process. He will be joined by Karen Stuppi, the children’s librarian at the New Brunswick Public Library, who will share how she used this book in programming at her library and the reaction of the kids when they learned that this invention occurred in their town.  

During the moderated Q&A session, attendees will have the opportunity to ask Wittenstein questions. The event will be recorded if you cannot attend it live.
